Information for podcast guests.
Hello and thank you so much for being a guest on the Animal Training Academy podcast show.
The show has been running now since January 2015. It has an international audience of people who work with animals including zoo keepers, pet owners and people in the veterinarian industry. Its intention is to disseminate information on best practice animal training and behavior management.
I’m so excited to have you agree to participate in the show and can’t wait to connect with you “in person.”
To do the podcast recording we will use something called Google Hangouts on Air/YouTube live … In order to use hangouts, you will need either the Hangouts App if you are using a mobile device (Tablet or smartphone) which you can download from the app store … Or … the browser extension if you are using a computer. It is recommended to use google chrome and you can download the extension here.

On the day what happens is I will set the call-up and send you an invite … you will then have to click on the invite link from the device where you either installed the app or the extension and this will allow you to jump in …
Google hangouts on air/YouTube live is video streaming software … although we won’t be needing to use the video function so a Camera is not 100% necessary. Although in saying that a lot of people prefer having someone to talk to so I normally leave mine on and you are free to do what you want.
A microphone, however, is Necessary … most people don’t have a professional microphone and so if we can’t get a hold of one what can work well is a set of earphones with the mic in the cord (see picture). If you don’t have any mic at all we have used computer/phone mic’s before successfully so we will make it work.
To record, we need a nice quiet place where you are comfortable and can minimize movement during the recording … mics can be very sensitive and pick up scratching of clothes etc …
Other background noises to be conscious of are … other people moving around, animals in the background, dogs barking, birds chirping etc, traffic sounds from nearby roads and weather … all things to take into consideration on the day.
Let me know if you have any questions about any of that … otherwise, I’ll do my Buddhist chants on the day to rid ourselves off any and all technical gremlins and we will be full steam ahead … 🙂
Super pumped to be doing this with you and can’t wait to talk soon
Best Regards
Ryan Cartlidge
